Wyoming High School 2-Year Reclassification Cycle Starts: There are some changes as far as which Wyoming High Schools will compete in which class in various sports for both this school year and next.

This school year will be the start of a new 2-year reclassification cycle.

What’s different this year is instead of where a school ranks in the enrollment number list compared to the other schools, a school will be placed in a particular class based on its actual enrollment numbers.

Wyoming High School Activities Association Commissioner Trevor Wilson says there is some correlation between enrollment and the level of talent and competition a school can provide in a sporting contest.

This time though instead of enrollment rankings, the WHSAA Board of Directors drew the line as far as what number relates to which class.

For volleyball, basketball and outdoor track and field, if school enrollment numbers for the year are 700 or greater, that school will compete in 4A.

Those between 210-699 are Class 3A, between 110-209 is Class 2A and all others are Class 1A.

There are some minor adjustments in the other sports not mentioned, except for football, which will stay under the old system of determining which schools are in which class.

Once the issue was decided on, the next issue was figuring out which teams were in the east and west, and how many teams are on each side.

For 4A volleyball, basketball and outdoor track and field, there will be a total of 15 teams.

Cody drops down to 3A.

There will be 7 teams in the East and 8 in the West, and that means both Casper schools will be in the west and not split up as in past years.

There will not be quadrants in the East, meaning from Sheridan’s perspective, the Broncs and Lady Broncs have to play home and away volleyball and basketball matches with all 4A East teams.

That would be both Gillette schools, all 3 Cheyenne schools and Laramie.

The only change in the 1A Northeast for Arvada-Clearmont, is that Casper Christian has joined the ranks.

As for Big Horn and Tongue River in the 2A East, that’s a situation that will be explained on another day.

Meanwhile, practice for golf, tennis and 4A football starts this coming Monday.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were off yesterday.

Today the team starts a 6-game homestand, starting with 3 games against the New York Mets, followed by 3 with Atlanta.

First pitch for today’s game is scheduled for 6:40pm.
