High School Basketball: Competition for the Wyoming High School winter sports season can start one week from today.

Last year the Sheridan boys basketball team finished with a record of 13-8, but the downside was that they lost their last 4 games of the season, including an 0-2 record at the regional tournament.

Coach Jeff Martini says that didn’t sit too well with many players, but the past is the past and now it’s time to focus on this season.

The Broncs and the Lady Broncs will play 4 games next week Thursday thru Saturday at Riverton to start the season.

Meanwhile, the Big Horn and Tongue River basketball teams will start play at Burns, while Arvada-Clearmont will play games at Upton.

Mountain West Conference Football, Washington State and Oregon State: Several media outlets are reporting that a deal could be announced soon between the Mountain West Conference, Washington State and Oregon State.

What is right now a football-only proposal, would be for next year and possibly the year after, the current Mountain West Conference teams would play 7 conference games amongst themselves, and play either the Cougars or the Beavers.

Both WSU and OSU would be ineligible to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championship game.

The current PAC-12 Conference will soon only be a PAC-2 conference, after 10 teams announced they are leaving the conference to go elsewhere.

Washington, Oregon, UCLA and Southern Cal are joining the Big 10, Cal and Stanford are joining the ACC, while Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado are joining the Big 12.

This year’s Mountain West Conference Championship game will be played this Saturday between Boise State and UNLV.

Bowl game announcements should be made sometime on Sunday, and with an 8-4 record in the regular season, the Wyoming Cowboys are waiting to see if and where they get to play one more game.

University of Wyoming Basketball: The UW Cowboys play tomorrow at the University of Portland.

The Wyoming Cowgirls will play Sunday at Oklahoma State.

Tip off for that game is scheduled for 12-noon Mountain Time.

Denver Nuggets Basketball: The Denver Nuggets were 134-124 winners at home last night vs. Houston.

Their next 2 games are on the road, starting Friday at Phoenix and Saturday at Sacramento.
