Joanne Marie Larsen, 90, of Sheridan, went to be with her Savior, Jesus, on January 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Joanne was born on October 1, 1935, to Johnnie and Sylvia Skaar in Watford City, North Dakota.

Joanne and her sisters, Shirley, Delores and Lorraine made many memories traveling, singing, shopping and meeting for coffee.  Joanne was the “oldest but the smartest” of the sisters! She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953. She earned an Airline Personnel Training certificate on December 18, 1953.

Upon her return to Sheridan, on a cold winter night, she met the love of her life, Donald Larsen.  They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. God blessed them with three children: Connie, Debbie and Donnie. Her in-laws Ruth and Jens Larsen blessed their lives in so many ways.

Her favorite years were working in the Dental Hygiene Department at Sheridan College and at Dr. Ewan’s Orthodontic office.

Through baptism, God made Joanne a child in His kingdom and she was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

She was devoted to her church, Immanuel Lutheran.  Over the years she was involved with the prayer chain, choir, quilters and the ladies’ group.  She and Don enjoyed home visitation with the new members and helped to make Martin Luther School possible and the expansion of the church fellowship hall.

Joanne’s happiest times were spent with her family and her many friends. Her hobbies included golfing, playing cards with family and friends, and gardening. She and Don loved to dance.  They especially enjoyed square dancing. She was a

wonderful Grandma, spending time at sports games, choir concerts and other various activities.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Don; parents Johnnie and Sylvia Skaar; sister Shirley (Gene) Songer; and granddaughter Misti Marie Kimmel. She will be missed by her children Connie (David) Gunderson, Kansas City, MO; Debbie (Jim) Christensen, San Tan Valley, AZ; and Donnie (Cheryl) Larsen, Buffalo, WY; her sisters Delores (Gerry) Pelesky and Lorraine Wilson; brother-in-law Leonard (Frances) Larsen, Worland, WY; and seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. and Funeral Services at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev.  Paul J Cain, officiating.  A reception will follow the service. She will be laid to rest in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
