Larry Estes
Larry passed away at his home peacefully on Aug 13. Larry was born in Scottsbluff NE a son to Fay and Rose Estes of Torrington, WY. He attended school at Torrington High School. Larry married Patty Johnson immediately following high school in Torrington in 1960.
Larry and Patty had 3 children (Rick, Tammy, and Dennis). He worked as a carpenter in Sundance and Torrington until he began the time as a ranch hand, hunting guide, and handyman in Wyoming and Montana. He later re-married in Montana, where his son Wade was born. Larry relocated to Phoenix, AZ where he managed the daily site operations, donations, and distributions for the Salvation Army. In 1998 Larry retired to Sheridan, WY to be closer to his family. Larry spent a few years in the Shell/Basin, WY area before moving back home to Torrington in 2022.
Larry loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, camping, and cooking. He hunted deer and elk until he was 80 years old. Larry was always willing to lend a hand or advise on home improvements or where the elk most likely will hang out. He was always the first to have his garden planted, his thumbs were green. Selling his potatoes or tomatoes at farmers’ markets made Larry many friends, as he seldom sold a vegetable without a conversation. Larry’s artistic side included wood carvings and paintings. He was always striking up a conversation, this resulted in friendships far and wide.
Larry was survived by his sisters Judy Burns (Torrington) and Donna Stroud (Cheyenne), his children Rick and Julie Estes (Sheridan), Tammy Estes (New Braunfels, TX), Dennis and Rhonda Estes, (Torrington) and Wade Estes (Livingston, MT). His grandchildren include Bradley Estes (Paige), Ben Estes (Carmelle), Nathan Estes, Nicholas Estes, Madelyn Estes, Mark Estes (Erin), Cliff Merback (Andrea), Clay Kath (Kellee), Carly Rodriguez and James Estes (Caitlyn). His great-grandchildren include Parker Estes, Noah and Michael Merback, Landon, Brynn, and Kinslee Kath; Copper Hall and Emma Rodriquez; Guy and Able Estes, and Serena Estes. Larry will be missed by many, his family and friends will celebrate his life with a service to be held on August 22 at 2 pm at Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington, WY, with a reception to follow at the Torrington Firehall.
