Rex Wayne Shadrick, resident of Sheridan, WY, passed away on 10 May 2025 at Big Horn Rehabilitation & Care Center at the age of seventy-four.

Rex Wayne was born on 9 May 1951 in Bridgeport, NE to Roxie & Rex Luckinbill. The family moved to Sterling, CO in 1956. Roxie & Rex would separate in 195x. Roxie met and fell in love with John Shadrick, and they married in 1960. John would adopt Rex as his own son in 1961. Roxie & John would adopt Rex’s sister, Kimberli Kai, in 1963.

Rex graduated from high school in the Sterling Tigers Class of 1970. He discovered the relatively unknown world of computer programming at the local community college in the summer after graduating from high school. In the fall of 1970, he moved to Golden, CO to study mathematics at the Colorado School of Mines. Realizing that he enjoyed computer science more than mathematics, Rex moved on from being a student to an employee at the Colorado School of Mines. This also manifested as Rex had married his sweetheart Patricia Jo Bradshaw, and they had their only child, Abbiegail, in the summer of 1973.

Rex would find success as a self-taught computer programmer as he worked for a variety of employers for many years. Eventually, he ended up at BP Exploration in Texas, and they wanted all their employees to be college graduates. So, Rex worked full-time at BP and studied part-time at the University of Texas at Dallas. In 1984, Rex earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UTD.

Rex was first & foremost a computer nerd. He genuinely loved the languages of programming & spent many hours at his beloved computers. He also enjoyed playing soccer, and he really enjoyed his time playing with a city club in Denver. Rex also cherished old movies, especially many classic B&W films.

Rex and Patty landed in Sheridan, WY in 1995. He was a co-owner of BusTech Computing for many years, and he absolutely loved working on his own terms. Rex also was a huge advocate for Al Anon in the Sheridan community. It was something he felt very passionate about, right up to his last days.

Rex is survived by his daughter, Abbiegail Shadrick, and his grandson, Maceo Banyan, both from beautiful Eugene, OR. He is also survived by his dear sister Kim Carleton and her husband, Tom, of Sterling, CO, and their children Tanner and Brittany, grandchildren Liam. Rex was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Jo and his parents, Roxie, John, and Big Rex and great niece London.

A Memorial Service is at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church with a light reception following the service. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
