An Authorization to Proceed

A resolution allocating federal funds was approved by the Sheridan City Council Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The City of Sheridan will be receiving a little more than $2.7 million in Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, a part of the American Relief Plan, or ARPA. Funds must be allocated by the end of 2024, and spent by the end of 2026. The City created an ARPA committee last year to identify projects the funding could be used for. During a presentation before the City Council and Mayor Rich Bridger Monday night, City Attorney Brendon Kerns talked about recent changes to the prior proposed ARPA rules.
Kerns said the City can also use the funds for essential workers, water, sewer, broadband and infrastructure. Kerns said there is no requirement for the City to show revenue reduction.
Following Kerns’ presentation, the Council approved a resolution that authorizes to proceed with the projects that were identified by the committee.
The identified projects are remodel and improvement to 103 North Gould (a/k/a Cook Ford Building) with an estimated budget of $400,000. Purchase of an emergency response mobile command unit with an estimated budget of $400,000. Purchase of an advanced life support certified ambulance, with an estimated budget of $300,000. Remodel and improvement to the Solid Waste and Recycling Bathroom/Locker room facilities. Estimated budget for that project is $200,000. And lastly, establishment of a housing land trust with an estimated budget of $1.43 million.

Well, we have two and a half years to allocate the funds. Plenty of time to get some options on the ballot and let voters decide. City council members, I challenge you to do this.
