Slack School, WSBA resolutions, the annual audit and reorganization of the board were on the agenda at the Tuesday, Dec. 14, SCSD#1 school board meeting in Ranchester.

Anne Griffin, Slack School Principal and Brooke Johnson, teacher, presented a slide show of what is happening at the Slack Elementary School. Slack is one of only a handful of one-room schools in Wyoming and is located in Parkman. The school currently has 8 students K-4, with one teacher. Johnson said the students did a lot of hands-on learning, such as picking apples and using math skills to divide them and measure ingredients and make apple sauce.

She also showed a slide that included ‘Copper’ the school dog. “He likes to eat crayons,” Johnson said. “The students learn to pick up their crayons.”

She talked about the Christmas program put on by Slack School,

Jeremy Smith, business manager, talked about the facility plan for the district, to make sure it meets the needs of the students and community. He then introduced Jason Lund, of Carver Florek & James, CPA’s, who talked about the recent audit of SCSD#1. He said the audit was somewhat different this year, due to the federal Covid-19 funding, but the school is doing well with only a few areas that need improvement.

There was a reorganization of the board, which happens each December, with the chairman’s gavel being passed from Carol Garber, who had held the post for ten years, to Vice-Chairman Clint Krumm. Garber was voted in as clerk, with Eric Lofgren voted in as vice-chair; Chad Baker, treasurer. Mercedes Biteman will continue as trustee.

Chairman Krumm reported on the WSBA conference and the resolutions that were put forth for the delegates.

On Jan. 10, at 6:30 pm, there will be a special program about old elementary schools in the area, including the Little Blue School House, which now stands at the Tongue River Learning Center. The program will be at the Learning Center in the old Ranchester Elementary School.
