The annual fireworks display after the Buffalo Lighted Christmas Parade has been approved by the Buffalo City Council, but not after some discussion to move the display to another weekend in the future.

Karina Bassett, with Buffalo FFA, made the requests for the Light Up Buffalo event on Saturday, December 4th for the use of Prosinski Park, and variances to city code concerning fireworks and noise during the display.

Buffalo Fire Chief Gomer Gammon discussed his concerns, saying weather would be the deciding factor in whether or not the fireworks would be presented, as in every other year.

He then brought up the possibility of moving the display to a different weekend separate from the annual Lighted Christmas Parade.

Acting Buffalo Police Chief Captain Garth Nicholas agreed with Gammon, saying he would like to see the fireworks display moved back to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Discussions will continue with all parties involved concerning the moving of the fireworks display.

As for this year, the council approved the FFA’s requests for the fireworks on December 4th.
