While most community colleges offer 2-year degrees, the Northern Wyoming Community College District is attempting to add its first 4-year degree program within its education curriculum.

District President Doctor Walter Tribley says the district is trying to get approval from the Wyoming Community College Commission to add bachelors in applied science in management and leadership for both business and industrial technology.

If approved it would be a flexibly offered degree with distance education and some face to face opportunities for people who want to become managers and leaders.

Doctor Tribley adds that a disadvantage to obtaining some types of 4-year degrees through a university, is that it doesn’t always result in a student going back to where they came from, and apply what they’ve learned to that area.

In addition, some students are place-bound, meaning something is holding them back from going to a University.

Dr. Walter Tribley

“They have complicated lives, sometimes children, they’re working, caring for others, they can be underemployed at times, meaning they can’t leave their job to go get an education.”

A decision from the Wyoming Community College Commission could be made this week at the Commission’s meeting, which is being held in Sheridan.

Lots of good College memories. I graduated in August of 1986 from University of Wyoming with a 4- year degree in Radio and Television.
