U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized 325 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. An elementary school in Sheridan County was one of the schools to receive the national recognition. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

TR Elementary Named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School

Tongue River Elementary in Ranchester was named as one of two Wyoming schools to receive the National Blue Ribbon School award which is based on a school’s overall academic performance of progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Tongue River Elementary’s award is based on exemplary high performance as measured in WY-TOPP, the proficiency test in Wyoming.

Now in its 39th year, the coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools. TRE Principal Annie Griffin, School District #1 Superintendent Pete Kilbride and a teacher from the elementary school will be traveling to Washington DC in November to receive the official award and be presented with the National Blue Ribbon Flag. Principal Griffin said it is a huge honor for their TRE family and for the Tongue River community. Each year, up to 420 schools can be nominated for the award. Powell Middle School was the other Wyoming school that received the Blue Ribbon designation.
