BLM Wyoming seeks nominees to help guide public land management

The Bureau of Land Management has announced they are seeking public nominations for positions on the BLM Wyoming Resource Advisory Council. This citizen-based council develops recommendations for the BLM to address public land management issues. 

“Resource advisory councils and the individual members who participate in them are valuable assets to the BLM as we develop and implement land management strategies,” BLM Wyoming Acting Associate State Director Kevin Christensen said. “Their advice and recommendations help us guide our management of public lands, and we appreciate the hard work and engagement of all council members.” 

According to The BLM, they maintain RACs across the west, which are chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and the Federal Policy and Land Management Act. BLM Wyoming’s RAC holds spots for 10 members who represent diverse interests and areas of expertise in local communities across the state. Through meetings, recommendations and other cooperative work, BLM Wyoming’s RAC provides the BLM with expert advice in support of balanced stewardship of public lands and resources. 

RAC members represent three categories, with multiple positions representing each interest: 

    Category 1: Representatives of energy and mineral development, federal grazing permits, the timber industry, transportation and rights of way, off-highway vehicle use, and commercial and developed outdoor recreation. 

    Category 2: Representatives of archaeological and historic organizations, dispersed recreation, wild horse and burro management, and nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations. 

    Category 3: Representatives of state, county or local elected office; Indian tribes within or adjacent to public lands; academic work on natural science and natural resource management; state natural resource management agencies; and the public at large. 

This year, BLM Wyoming is looking for nominations for two open positions in Category 2 and one open position in Category 3. Individuals can nominate themselves or others to serve on the RAC. The BLM will review nominees, who must be Wyoming residents, based on their training, education and knowledge of public lands and resources within Wyoming. Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collaborative decision-making. All nominations should include letters of reference from represented interests or organizations, a completed application and any other information that speaks to the nominee’s qualifications.
