cvannoyIn spite of an early rain shower, the first Cinco de Mayo Day at the Branding Iron Park in Clearmont attracted a good crowd. Over 20 people from Clearmont and even Dayton came to enjoy the pot-luck Mexican food.
Ira Roadifer and Sandy Hirz of the Historical Group decided to put on the celebration, to bring attention to the Clearmont Historical Group and due in part to the fact that, as of now, no Clearmont Day Celebration is being planned.
Ira Roadifer said of the event, “It’s a pretty good turn out, I think we would have had more people if the weather had been warmer. We might have it next year, we might make it an annual event.”
Bruce Yates, former Clearmont resident and on the board of the Clearmont Historical Group, drove down from Dayton to attend. “I wouldn’t have missed it,” he said. “It was raining on me on the way down, but someone must be looking out for us because it quit raining.”
Roadifer said that on during the week of May 1-8 the group is planning a town clean up week to take advantage of the free trash week at the Sheridan Land Fill, where country residents can bring up to one ton of trash to the landfill and do not have to pay. Robin Prusack of Ulm, a member of the Historical Group, has a trailer he is letting the historical group use for the trash.
Ira Roadifer said that he and Sandy Hirz picked up three loads of leaves and branches last week, but anyone else who wants to clean up until the 8th can get gloves and masks from the Historical Group. Call Fran Fel, 758-4524 or Sandy Hitz, 752-9214 for bags and gloves.
