JCHC Speaks to Media on Latest COVID-19 Info

The Johnson County Healthcare Center held a media briefing Tuesday morning to discuss the latest information on COVID-19 in the county, since there has been a major increase in cases in the county and the surrounding area.
Facility CEO Sean McCallister gave updated numbers from a Monday evening release, saying there are currently 10 active cases in the county and 15 additional probable cases and there have been 38 total confirmed cases since March.
There has been 1 death in the county, but an additional patient died last week that was admitted to the hospital for non-COVID related issues but tested positive post-mortem for COVID-19 so there is potentially a second death in the county.
There have been 91 people tested in the last 9 days with 10 people positive, 7 pending and 2 positive inpatients in the hospital.
McCallister talked about the PCR Rapid COVID Analyzer and its value to the facility.
McCallister said the healthcare center will begin testing all patients admitted to the hospital via the PCR Rapid Test effective immediately, and are considering testing for all elective surgery patients prior to the procedure.
Clinic resources have been bolstered to handle increased phone inquiries and COVID screenings and evaluations.
Currently there are no positive cases in the Amie Holt Care Center, but the nursing home is again closed to visitors except for end-of-life situations.
All AHCC staff are tested weekly for COVID-19.
We will have more from Tuesday’s media briefing in upcoming stories.
