Sheridan Community Land Trust is announcing that longtime Sheridan County rancher Don Roberts has donated nearly 544 acres of land valued at $3.75 million along the community’s western edge, marking one of the most significant conservation gifts in county history.

Through this donation, SCLT has established the Gillispie Draw Natural Area and the Ridgetop Natural Area, which will be owned, managed and permanently protected by the land trust.

According to SCLT, the gift builds on Roberts’ previous conservation efforts and will help ensure working ranchland, wildlife habitat and public trail opportunities remain part of Sheridan’s future.

The organization said the properties will support a balance of agricultural use, outdoor recreation and long-term conservation for generations to come.

Thank you to Don Roberts and the hard work of the SCLT in keeping our lands protected for livestock and wildlife! Growth is inevitable, but keeping the beauty of Sheridan is just as important. Thank you again!
