Commission Urges Residents to Apply for Property Tax Programs
Sheridan County Commission Chair Lonnie Wright and Commissioner Christi Haswell are reminding residents that property tax exemptions created by the Wyoming Legislature remain in effect for the 2026 tax year but now require homeowner action.
According to Sheridan County Assessor Paul Fall, the statewide homeowner exemption—which reduces a qualifying residence’s fair market value by 25% on up to the first $1 million—was applied automatically in 2025. This year, however, homeowners must notify the Assessor’s Office that the property is their primary residence to continue receiving the exemption.
Haswell used her appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to remind homeowners of the change.

Applications for all property tax programs opened Oct. 1. The deadline for the 25% homeowner exemption is Feb. 2, while the deadlines for the 50% long-term homeowner exemption and the veteran exemption are both May 26.

Gee thanks. Of course if the three high-taxing, big-spending commissioners(Wrong, Hic-up and Nikki) had voted to lower the property tax mill rate, we’d all be enjoying lower taxes!
Instead, by a 3 to 2 vote, they re-imposed the highest Mill Rate allowed by law.
That means that just ONE commissioner is responsible for the highest mill rate (12) on every property in Sheridan County!
Time to get rid of that ONE and her other 2 lawless commie, comrade commissioners.
