The Eye of the Beholder
The Oxford Dictionary defines art as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” Since its inception in 2001, the Sheridan Public Arts Committee has helped acquire more than 70 permanent sculptures for the community and hosts new on-loan pieces every year. One of the newer on-loan sculptures sits at the corner of Dow and Main Street in downtown Sheridan. During a recent interview on Public Pulse, Sheridan City Councilman Steve Brantz commented on the sculpture that is made of vehicle bumpers and fenders.
Brantz said that some of his constituents have raised concerns about some of the artwork that’s on display throughout town.

Artwork that is in Sheridan temporarily is here for a year as part of a rotating on-loan sculpture program. If a sculpture is purchased, it’s purchased through private donations made to the Sheridan Public Arts Committee. Public Funds are not used to purchase the sculptures. Paying taxes is never “optional.”
The Mandatory One Percent (MOP) tax should be abolished to prevent this and other mis-uses of our hard-earned tax money.

Dennis the voters had an option and they approved it. You should be happy about this art install and the publicity it is apparently generating. 8 comments is a lot. Maybe it can help you defeat the next optional 1 cent sales tax initiative. You could go a lot of ways with this. Inanimate object pushes liberal ideology on town ? Think about the possibilities . Today an art install, tomorrow a one world government.
