Most of the roads within Yellowstone National Park, as well as three of the five entrances to the park are about to close for the season.

The West, South and East entrances to Yellowstone National Park are scheduled to close to motor vehicle traffic on the morning of Friday, November 1st.

All roads within the park, except the ones that connect the North to the Northeast Entrances will close as well, to allow snow to build up for the upcoming winter season.

The park annually closes the roads and the three entrances around this time of year.

The North and Northeast Entrances remain open year round to allow motorists to travel between Gardiner and Cooke City, Montana.

If there’s enough snowfall, the park is scheduled to reopen the West, South, and East entrances and the roads to snowmobile and snow coach traffic on Sunday, December 15th.

Snowplow crews won’t start clearing the closed snow covered highways until around early-middle March next year, and motor vehicle traffic won’t be allowed back into the park, until sometime between middle April and middle May, depending on which entrance to the park is used.
