The Buffalo Wells and Transmission System Project has been in the works for over six years.

The intent behind the project is to find a reliable secondary water source for the City of Buffalo.

The first phase of the project required the drilling of water wells west of the City of Buffalo. In April of this year, City Works Director Kevin Silbernagel told the city council that delays in the project created a roughly $1.2 million funding shortfall. The council chose to cover those shortfalls by dipping into the city’s Capital Reserve Funds.

During a recent appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Mayor of Buffalo Shane Schrader said the time has finally come to begin the transmission phase of the project.

The Buffalo City Council voted to award the contract for the transmission lines on the Buffalo Wells Project to WyoDak Energy Services of Buffalo. The contract will pay WyoDak nearly $2.2 million to complete this final phase of the project.

After suffering multiple delays and cost adjustments, Schrader said the city can see the light at the end of the tunnel with this phase beginning construction.

Despite the set-backs, the end result is positive gain and worth the time for Buffalo as it will provide a reliable secondary water source should wildfires or other disasters prevent the water of Tie Hack from being potable.
