Johnson, Boyd Win Sneakers and Spurs

The annual Sneakers and Spurs 5K/1K Race/Walk happened Friday morning in downtown Sheridan, one of the lead-up events to the WYO Parade.

According to itsyourrace.com, 386 participants began the race with 374 finishing.

Taking first place in the men’s division was Blaine Johnson, a 2021 graduate of Sheridan High School, who will be a senior at Chadron State College in the fall, where he competes on the cross country team.

Sheridan Media’s Kevin Koile caught up with Johnson after he crossed the finish line, asking his opinion about the event.

Johnson was asked why he wanted to participate in the race.

Johnson finished the 5K in a time of 16 minutes and 10 seconds.

The top finisher in the Women’s Division was Leah Boyd with a time of 19 minutes and 16 seconds.
