Sheridan Fire-Rescue (SFR), Sheridan Police Department (SPD), and Wyoming Regional EMS (WREMS) responded to a structure fire near the intersection of Coffeen Ave. and S. Sheridan Ave. at 08:36 Saturday morning, April 27, 2024.

SFR Engine 2 (E-2) arrived on scene at 08:38 finding a single story, multiple occupant apartment building with a moderate amount of fire and smoke showing on the front exterior section of the building.

Initial efforts to control the fire were started by passersby and adjacent apartment occupants.

E-2’s crew deployed a preconnected handline to initiate exterior fire attack and E-1’s
crew was assigned to interior search for occupants and fire extension.

The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished.

E-1 did not find any additional occupants inside or extension of fire to the interior of the apartment.

All crews transitioned to other tasks as the building was systematically ventilated and overhauled to remove all residual smoke, heat, and the potential for rekindle.

The scene was turned over to a SFR Origin and Cause Investigator and is currently under investigation.

One person has been displaced due to the extent of damage around the apartment and
placed in contact with the American Red Cross for assistance.

One person was transported to the hospital for further evaluation by WREMS. No pets or emergency personnel were injured during this fire.

Working smoke alarms are extremely important for early notification of a fire.

Please take this opportunity to make sure your home or apartment has working smoke alarms.
