cvannoyOn Monday, Jan 22, the SCSD#2 Board and teachers met in a round table discussion about several topics of importance to the district. Superintendent Scott Stults said that this was an opportunity for the Sheridan Central Education Association (SCEA) to share the results of the climate survey that they do every year with their staff.
Ed Calkins, SJHS History teacher, Devon Johnston, Language Arts, SJHS and Janet Peyrot of Meadowlark School spoke to the board.
Calkins talked about PBIS
Johnston talked about English learners in the district.
Peyrot talked about salaries and teacher housing.
The SCEA encouraged people to reach out to their legislators about the subject of school funding.
Stults added this about teacher housing.
The climate survey asked staff some questions about how they feel, such as, “I feel that student learning is relevant at this school?” which had a 4.6 out of 5. “I work with people who treat me with respect,” which earned a 4.4. About the principal of their school and did they feel supported by them. The central office; ways to increase student achievement; the mission and vision of the district, and how their moral was. Most of the responses were over 4, including the one, ‘I love to teach’ which earned a 4.5.
Stults added,
Board members had some questions and comments for the presenters, including on question about English learners, and whether technology was being used. Ryan Schasteen technology director for the district, said that it was, including using Rosetta Stone.
Trustee Ed Fessler asked about student cell phone use, and Calkins and SHS Principal Scott Cleland said that was not a problem at the present time.
