The temperature is going up and so is the word about what is becoming a popular hot spot at Sheridan College.
Recently potters fired up the 2-chamber wood kiln on the east side of campus for the third time, since it debuted a little more than one year ago.
The fire burned for a little more than 100 hours and so far, an average of about 600-to-700 pieces of pottery have been heated.
Stephens Mullins is the project manager and owner of the kiln.
He says those who have helped keep the fire going have things figured out and the general reaction from those who have needed the kiln has been good.
“This firing we got it under wraps, so at the next firing I hope to invite people out to see the whole process, to understand what we’re doing out here and stay clay just continues to grow and turn into a really vibrant artistic opportunity for Sheridan. It’s been great.”
Mullins adds for now, the kiln will be fired up anywhere from 2-to-5 times a year.
