Sheridan County Unemployment Rate Increases In June 2023; Johnson County Holds Steady

Last month the school year ended, and the number of teens looking for a summer job increased, which affected unemployment rates in some areas of Wyoming.

The State Department of Workforce Services says the statewide unemployment rate dropped from 3.3% in May 2023 to 3.1% in June.

It was 3.4% in June of 2022.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2023 was at 3.6%, which is down from 3.7% in May 2023, and the rate holds steady compared to June of last year.

The unemployment rate in four of the five northeast Wyoming counties increased last month.

Sheridan County’s unemployment rate for June 2023 was at 2.7%, which is up from 2.5% in May.

Johnson County’s rate for May was at 2.7%, and that percentage went unchanged in June.

The June 2022 rates for both Sheridan and Johnson Counties was at 3.4% and 3.2% respectively.

Teton County had the lowest unemployment rate in Wyoming in June 2023 at 1.7%, while Sweetwater County had the highest rate at 3.6%.

Nonfarm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 10,000 jobs from June 2022 to June 2023.
