JCSD1 Will Not Offer Summer Food Program in 2023

Johnson County School District #1 will not be offering the summer food program this summer, as reported by District Nutrition Services Director Ricci Sanders.

During last week’s school board meeting Sanders was asked about the program and if if would be continued in 2023.

Sanders said the program fed kids until COVID happened, when it was then feeding the community in general.

She explained why the district couldn’t offer the program this summer, based on a government census map.

Sanders said during COVID, people could grab meals and eat them elsewhere, but since the pandemic has been lifted, the rules for the program have changed back to require the meals be eaten on-site, making the program difficult for the district to provide.

She did say that the Johnson County Friends Feeding Friends program will be offering a summer meal program instead.
