April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This is a time for advocates, survivors, their loved ones, and the community to come together to talk openly about sexual violence to support survivors, increase knowledge and awareness, and identify strategies and resources to prevent sexual violence.

One strategy used by the Advocacy and Resource Center is educating the youth of Sheridan County schools on some of the dangers that exist in the world.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Executive Director of the Advocacy and Resource Center, Yvonne Swanson, and Assistant Director Rhonda Weber spoke on the lessons they present to the students over the last 15 years at Sheridan High School, Jr. High School and Bighorn High School.

The lessons arm students with knowledge against the very real dangers that not only exist in the world around them but also through social media and other online venues. The lessons not only arm the students against the dangers, they help to give kids the confidence to use that knowledge to help them stay safe.

The Advocacy and Resource Center invites the public to take the online quiz, What are the signs of an abusive relationship? Find a link to the quiz by scrolling to the middle of the center’s website, found here.
