Johnson County’s Commissioners considered a settlement in the lawsuit pertaining to the boat ramp installed at Lake DeSmet on the old Texaco Lodge property by John Moreland, owner of Capital Reef Investments, LLC.

County Attorney Tucker Ruby explained the settlement with the commission at their recent meeting.

Ruby said the boat ramp would be exclusive to the property and will only be used by the owners.

The settlement was the best option for all parties involved, according to Ruby, based on the facts and the possible outcomes in the trial, and he believes this is a good settlement for the county.

The commission voted to approve and accept the settlement agreement.

Takeaway: Rich, out-of-state, lakefront property owners: Putting in your own private boat ramp will cost you $125K, plus construction. Cost of putting in a dock and boathouse are still TBD
