Although not a new program, Wyoming’s lawmakers have broadened the Wyoming property tax refund program.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, State Senator Dave Kinskey (R – District 22) spoke on the short-term solution for the Cowboy State’s skyrocketing property tax.

Although Kinskey admits he’s never been a fan of the program due to its limitations and funding model, he acknowledges the program has provided much needed relief for people in the past and hopes Wyoming residents take advantage of the changes within the program. Under the previous law, to qualify, an applicant’s income could not exceed 75% of average income.

According to the District 22 Senator, these exclusions apply to each “adult member of the household.”

Other stipulations state the refund is available only to those who have been a Wyoming resident for at least the last five years. The property must be owner occupied for at least nine months of the year and must be the principal residence of the applicant.

According to Kinskey, other provisions exist in the law, Kinskey stressed the importance to review one’s own situation with the county once the law goes into effect.

During the program, Sheridan County Assessor Paul Fall called into the show to alert listeners to the deadline and availability of applications.
