State Senator Dave Kinskey (R-Sheridan, Johnson Counties), in his weekly talk from the legislative session, updated Sheridan Media on the remaining property tax bills and what he expects will happen with them before the end of the session.

Kinskey explained that there are still two property tax bills still in play that have come over to the Senate from the House.

He discussed the first, which seems to be popular with some, but not with others.

Senate File 136 is still alive in the House after being passed by the Senate. It is the bill recommended by former Representative Mike Madden.

Kinskey said the bill had to be reworked due to a provision in he Constitution that says their can’t be too big of a differential in various classes of taxable property, and he explained why.

There was a lot of compromise built into the legislation before it went to the House, according to Kinskey.

Senate File 136 was scheduled to be heard by the House Revenue Committee Thursday, February 23.
