Several Items Discussed at Clearmont Town Council

The Clearmont town council met on Monday, Feb. 20, with one guest, Sheriff Dominguez. Mayor Chris Schock discussed the WAM conference he attended and reported on the progress of Well #3. He discussed the repayment for DWSRF #226, and said he talked to Governor Mark Gordron, president of SLIB, and on Feb 16 when the governor was in Sheridan at a community meeting with the mayors,

Schock is hoping to negotiate the terms of the agreement.

Schock stated that he will be attending the SLIB meeting for Local Government Project ARPA Grant through Zoom on February 27 – 28.

He also said that he attended the recent WAM conference,

Schock reported that Cloud Peak Accountant withdrew from conducting the town’s audit.

An on-going topic of discussion was the requirement to vacate land for the school to install a bulk gas tank for the school buses.

Councilman Ronnie Poppenga asked about the town vehicles. Schock reported that they are still functioning, and the board can discuss it during next fiscal year budgeting. Councilwoman Betz said the park lights and some streetlights are no longer functioning. Schock said he would talk to town maintenance. She also mentioned that the Clearmont streets need to be plowed when they’re slushy.

In the maintenance report, Schock reported that Pete Bassett, the new maintenance man passed his water exam and he’s working on lagoon certification. John Kiser will be on vacation from February 22 to March 8-10.

In other business, the council approved to update the Town of Clearmont Accounting and Financial Policy Manual and to approve the town investment policy. Poppenga moved to approve increasing dumpster usage rate to $25 per pickup load; Switzer moved to approve the Community Center utilities rate agreement and Betz made a motion to approve Carver, Florek & James, CPA’s to conduct the review for the town’s financial statements.
