Kinskey: 988 Suicide Prevention Bill Passes Without Trust Fund

State Senator Dave Kinskey (R-Sheridan, Johnson Counties), in his weekly talk with Sheridan Media from the legislative session, discussed the 988 Suicide Prevention legislation, saying it had passed the Senate without controversial funding through a proposed trust.
He explained further.
The legislation originally had a $40 million trust that would have funded the program indefinitely, but that was stricken from the bill in favor of an appropriation from the legislature’s general fund.
HB0065 passed third reading in the Senate last Wednesday and was sent back to the House for concurrence.
It passed the concurrence vote Thursday and will now head to Governor Mark Gordon’s desk for his signature.

Classic. “oh yeah, we support suicide prevention!” Good for votes to stay in office and keep power. Put your money where your mouth is? Nope. Anyone notice?
