The Emergency Room (ER) at the Johnson County Healthcare Centerhas seen a higher than normal amount of trauma cases in September, according to the report given by Director of Nursing Mary Litzel.

Litzel, speaking for absent Chief of Staff Dr. Ryan Ludwig, said there were 10 big traumas during the month, and have transferred quite a few critically ill patients to other facilities.

She said the hospital has been alternating between busy and not-so-busy over the same period, but the facility has been busy overall.

She also spoke about the new doctor in the ER, Dr. Tom Richards, saying he was “phenomenal.”

Board President Dr. Mark Schueler said Dr. Richards brought valuable experience to the ER.

He added that Dr. Richards seems to have integrated well and is a good asset to the healthcare center.
