The first official meeting of the new Sheridan Zonta International Club will be held on Tuesday, October 11 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Sheridan’s Rib and Chop House, 847 North Main Street.
Deedee Boysen, past Zonta governor and chair of the committee to start the new Sheridan Club said that the club envisions a world in which “women’s rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. They envision a world where no woman lives in fear of violence.”
This club will be affiliated with 19 other clubs in Colorado, SD, Montana, and Wyoming area and to become a member one must share Zonta’s vision and be prepared to actively participate in club activities. Boysen was at Third Thursday on Sept. 15 and talked about the upcoming meeting.
At the upcoming meeting there will be two guest speakers, Jean Bearcrane and Heather Takeshorse, who will be talking about Missing and Murdered Indigenous People, and actions one can take to bring awareness to this topic.
There will be more information about Zonta for those who are new to the group. There will be social time between 5:30 and 6:00, and no host appetizers and beverages can be ordered off the menu. The meeting will start promptly at 6 and continue until about 7.
The group is interested in learning more about topics that align with their mission of building a better world for women and girls through service and advocacy.
According to Boysen, “At the first meeting we plan to explore ideas for the first local service project, so please come ready with an idea or two for us, and meet other like-minded people in your community.” Zonta welcomes men and women of all ages who share their vision for the future of women.
