After a three year hiatus, Fort Phil Kearny’s Full Moon Tours have returned.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 7 and 8, ticket holders will take a guided tour of the fort by moonlight, and experience how isolating and eerie it was for the soldiers to live there in the 1860s.

Actors from the The Trident Theater Company in Sheridan, will work to transport visitors back in time by recreating scenes and historical local figures.

While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Site Superintendent Shaire Shada told listeners that this event is back by popular demand. For two years they were forced to put the production on hiatus due to the pandemic, and last year, due to the weather.

This year, the team is eager to show the hardship and isolation of those who lived in the fort.

Tickets are $10 per person, children ages 11 and under are free. Tours will begin every half hour, beginning with the 6:30 p.m. tour and ending with the 9 p.m. tour. The 6:30 p.m. tour is kid-friendly; after that, the tours get more grim, Shada said.

Tours limited to 20 people per group. Shada suggests visitors dress for the weather. For tickets and learn more, click here.
