The US Secretary of the Interior plans to visit the Nation’s first national park to see first-hand the damage that took place last month.
On Friday (July 7th), Secretary Deb Haaland will visit Yellowstone National Park to tour some of the damaged areas caused by the recent floods and see what progress has been made to restore access to the park.
She will be accompanied by the Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks, Shannon Estenoz.
A fast snow-melt combined with heavy rains resulted in a number of roadways in the park being damaged or destroyed.
The park was able to reopen about 93% of the park this past weekend to motor vehicle traffic, but the north and northeast entrances to the park remain closed.
President Biden declared the area a major disaster and ordered federal assistance to supplement State, tribal and local recovery efforts in those areas.
