The Sheridan County Airport will soon have an improved baggage claim area for passengers that are flying in.
Airport Manager John Stopka says the plan is to expand and renovate the terminal and install a new modernized baggage claim area.
Recently the Sheridan County Commissioners waived the county building permit fees for the airport, which was almost $10,000.
The reason for that is, since the county owns the airport anyway, paying the building permit fees would be the equivalent of writing a check to themselves.
Stopka says bidding for the project started about 2 weeks ago, and so far the plans have received approval from those who need to approve it.
“They’ve also been reviewed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and we’ve also received a permit back from the state. They didn’t have any issues with those plans and we’ve got their blessing to go ahead with the project.”
The total cost for the renovation project is estimated at around $4.2 million.
The airport will apply for more FAA funding in October, which is when the FAA’s fiscal year begins.
