Sheridan HS Football: For the second time in as many games, the Sheridan High School football team survived a close shave.
The Broncs overcame 3 turnovers, scored with less than 3 minutes to go to take the lead and then got a late interception to secure a 24-21 win at home vs. Kelly Walsh.
Head Coach Jeff Mowry says some inconsistent play earlier in the game is what got Sheridan into that situation.
There are 2 undefeated teams remaining in Class 4A and they go head to head this coming Friday, as the Broncs visit Natrona County.
Sheridan County HS Cross Country: All of the Sheridan County teams competed this past Saturday at the Michelle Ludwig Invitational at the Sheridan VA facility.
Big Horn Junior Lyla Marney won the girls race with more than 40 seconds to spare, and was 4th the previous week at a big meet in Bozeman, Montana.
The 2-time defending 2A State Champ says having a big lead like that can be boring and it can also be tempting to slow down, but she finds ways to keep herself going.
On the boys side, Eli Balkenbush of Sheridan had an easy race as well, winning by about 30 seconds.
The sophomore placed 3rd at last year’s state meet and has won all 4 of the races that he’s competed in so far this year.
He says his times a few weeks ago were a little slower than what he would like, but that was because his body needed to remember what a race felt like.
Balkenbush and several Bronc runners will compete this Friday at a meet in Mesa, Arizona.
Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks are preparing for their home opener this weekend and will do so with a new coaching staff.
The team has announced that former player and former assistant coach Blake Billings is taking over as interim Head Coach.
Another former Hawk and team captain McCaffrey Billings will be the interim Assistant Coach.
No details are available on the coaching change and what happened to now former coach Todd McIlrath.
Sheridan hosts the Bozeman Icedogs for a 2-game series this coming Friday and Saturday.
The puck drops on both games at 7:30pm.
Colorado Avalanche Pre-Season Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche lost a pre-season game last night at Winnipeg 3-1.
The Avs are next scheduled to play their next pre-season game on Friday at home against Winnipeg.
The regular season starts 1 week from tomorrow.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies are scheduled to play their final 6 games of the season this week, starting with a 3-game series at home vs. Arizona.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm.
The team must win all 6 of their remaining games to avoid a 100-loss season, and are already assured of finishing in last place in the NL West.
On Friday, the Rocks conclude the season with a 3-game series at the Chicago White Sox.
