Sheridan College Men And Women Place 3rd At 2026-27 Season Opening Event

Sheridan College’s men’s and women’s rodeo teams both finished in third behind University and Wyoming and Gillette at the first rodeo of the Fall season in Chadron, Nebraska.

On the men’s team, Bareback rider Chaz Dewey took eighth place in the first go, moved up to fourth in the second go and finished fourth in the average.

Returning saddle bronc rider Christopher Nelson tied for second in the long go and finished first in both the short go and the average.

Fellow returning rider Jake Schlattmann tied for 10th in the long go, moved up to seventh in the short go and settled in eighth place in the average.

Teammate Grady Gorwill started out in ninth place in the long go, tied for third in the short go and took seventh in the average.

Tie-down roper Tyon Arneson took third place with an 11.1-second time in the long go, while teammate Tace Berglund finished ninth with an 11.6-second run.

Both moved up in the short go, with Arneson landing in second after an 11.3-second run and Berglund finishing fourth with an 11.6-second time.

In the average, Arneson finished in second and and Berglund tied for sixth.

Team Ropers Jonah Bustad and Colby Olson finished the long go in seventh place with a 9.8-second run, tied for sixth in the short go and finished ninth overall.

On the women’s team, Lucy Moon kicked things off with a 17.77-second, seventh-place ride in the long go, followed by a 17.86-second, seventh-place ride in the short go.

She finished seventh in the average.

Teammate Allie Huskey took 10th with a 17.91-second ride in the long go, moved into eight in the short go with a 17.88-second ride and finished ninth in the average.

Breakaway ropers Rylan Swanson and Ryen Sheppick kicked off the long go in first and second place, respectively, with 2.2 and 2.4-second rides.

Both tied for fourth place in the short go and finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the average.

Head Coach Bobby Harris was pleased with the team efforts and is happy to see some new faces in the top ten. “We have a young team, and it was exciting to see them get out there and compete right alongside their more seasoned teammates. It’s going to be an exciting season.” Harris said.

The team will return to practice this week then travel to Riverton Sept. 18-20 for its second rodeo.

The Generals will then return to Sheridan for the Pat Hamilton Memorial rodeo Sept. 25-27.
