Wyoming Legion Baseball: When the Wyoming Legion Baseball season started, not everyone understood what the format was going to be.
In past years, there was a Double-A and A-League classification, but this time around, all of those teams were put together and the state was divided into North and South conferences.
This year each team played a total of 14 conference games, and the top 4 teams in the standings on both sides, qualified for the Division One State Tournament, and through that tournament, it would be decided which teams would go to the 2 upcoming regional tournaments.
Wyoming Legion Baseball Commissioner Jason Huggins says of the final 4 teams at this year’s state tournament, 2 were from the old AA League and the other 2 were from the old single A league.
He adds in the end, the top 8 teams made it to the state tournament, but the only downside with the structure is that not every team in each conference played all of the other teams.
Cheyenne Post 6 is scheduled to begin play at the AA Northwest Regional Tournament on Wednesday in Medford, Oregon, while the Sheridan Jets start play at the Northwest Class A Regional Tournament in Casper on Thursday.
The Jets are guaranteed a minimum of 3 games, and their games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all scheduled to begin at 4pm.

High School/College Football: It’s about time to toss the ol’ pigskin around.
Practice for the Sheridan High School Football Team, as well as all Wyoming High School 4A teams, starts one week from today.
The regular season starts on Friday, August 28th.
All other classes of football, including Big Horn and Tongue River can start practice the following week on August 17th.
University of Wyoming Football practice should start soon.
No official date has been announced, but the first game is scheduled for one month from this coming Wednesday at Colorado State.
Meanwhile, defending FCS Champ Montana State started practice this past Thursday.
The Bobcats were at the White House the day before, to be honored for their FCS National Championship win.
MSU starts on Saturday, August 29th at Utah Tech.
Their home opener is on September 5th vs. Butler University, located in Indianapolis.
Colorado Rockies Baseball: For only the 2nd time this season, the Colorado Rockies swept a 3-game series, as the team won all 3 games this past weekend at home vs. Kansas City.
Friday’s score was 3-1.
The Rocks doubled up the opposition on Saturday 12-6.
Hunter Goodman provided both a 3-run blast, and a solo shot, while Willi Castro also knocked one out of the park.
Colorado completed the sweep yesterday with an 8-1 win.
Jake McCarthy delivered a 3-run shot to put the game away.
Kyle Freeland became the first Rockies pitcher in 4 years to toss a complete game, as he threw 115 pitches and struck out 8.
It’s also the first complete game of his career.
With those 3 wins, the Rocks now have 45 W’s on the season, which surpasses last year’s win total of 43.
The team has 50 games remaining on their schedule and need to win at least 18 of them, to avoid a 100-loss season, which is something else that hasn’t happened in 4 years.
Tampa Bay visits Denver today to start a 3-game series.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm.
