Sheridan HS’s Dane Steel Wins 2024 Boys Milward Simpson Award: A recent Sheridan HS grad and 3-sport athlete has been named the top overall male athlete from the graduating class of 2024.

This past weekend, Dane Steel was named the boys winner of the 2024 Milward Simpson Award, becoming the 5th Bronc to do so.

In football he helped Sheridan win the last 3 State Championships.

As a senior he scored 26 touchdowns (offense, defense and special teams) and he was named the 4A offensive and defensive player of the year.

Steel is a 3-time Wyoming High School State Champion wrestler, a 3-time All-American, and is the 2024 National Runner-Up.

He helped Sheridan win the 4A state title as a junior and helped the team to a 4A State Runner-Up finish as senior, losing only 1 match, which happened at nationals.

Soccer-wise, Steel helped the Broncs to a state runner-up finish as a sophomore and back-to-back 3rd place finishes as a junior and senior.

He will attend Montana State to play football.


WY-MT All-Star Basketball: This past weekend was the Wyoming-Montana All-Star Basketball Games.

For the first time since 2011, not only did the Wyoming boys win a game, they actually swept their northern neighbors and ended a 22-game losing streak in the process.

On Friday at Gillette, the Wyoming boys won 83-62, then on Saturday at Billings, they won again 94-85.

In the second game, Garrett Spielman of Sheridan scored 19 points to help the cause.

As for the girls, Montana won both games 90-68 and 76-35.


Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers dropped both conference games on Friday at Casper, and the Oilers won both games in walk-off fashion.

In Game 1, Sheridan had a 7-3 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning, but then got called for 2 balks and committed 2 errors and ended up losing 8-7.

In Game 2, the Troopers would tie the game at 3, then an error in the bottom of the 8th allowed the winning run to score, and Casper would win 4-3.

Sheridan is now 22-13 on the season.

This week’s schedule is a long and busy one, as the team will get on the road to Omaha, Nebraska tomorrow morning to play at least 7 games.

The first game is tomorrow at 4pm as the team will make a stop for 1 game at Holdrege, Nebraska.

The next home game isn’t until Tuesday, July 9th.


Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies dropped 2 out of 3 games at home vs. Pittsburgh this past weekend.

On Friday, the Pirates won 5-2.

Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run in a losing effort.

On Saturday, the Rocks’ bats showed up as the team won 16-4.

Hunter Goodman hit a solo and a 2-run home run.

Michael Toglia hit a grand slam and Ryan McMahon stole home.

Yesterday, Pittsburgh would win the rubber game 8-2.

Colorado is back in action today as the team starts a 4-game home series vs. the LA Dodgers.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40pm.


NBA Finals: Dallas avoided the sweep on Friday, as they would clobber Boston 122-84.

The Celtics still lead the series 3-games-to-1, and host Game 5 tonight, starting at 6:30.


NHL Stanley Cup Finals: Edmonton stayed alive on Saturday, as the Oilers annihilated Florida 8-1.

The Panthers still lead the series 3-games to 1, and host Game 5 tomorrow.
