Spring Sports Coaches Of The Year Named: Two Sheridan County High School Track and Field Coaches have been named Coach of the Year in their sport for the spring season.

Taylor Kelting of Sheridan and Kirk McLaughlin of Big Horn won the honor from the Wyoming Coaches Association.

Kelting will get the honor twice, because he won it for both 4A Boys and Girls, while McLaughlin won in the 2A Boys category.

Sheridan won the 4A Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field State Championship a few weeks ago.

For the boys it was their 3rd title in 4 years, and for the girls, they won only their second title in school history.

The other was in 1983.

Meanwhile, the Big Horn boys repeated as state champs.

Wyoming Shrine Bowl Football Game: Those who recently graduated are putting on the pads one last time for state bragging rights, and to help those who are unable or are having trouble moving on their own.

Saturday is the annual Shrine Bowl football game, as all-stars from the North and South will battle for bragging rights.

The game also serves as a fundraiser for the Shriner’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In the past, players would take a trip to the hospital to visit patients, but that did not happen this year.

Instead a few patients visited the players to share their stories and experiences.

Sheridan quarterback Dominick Berrettini says talking with those patients was a real eye opener.

Saturday’s Shrine Bowl football game is scheduled to kickoff at 2pm from Natrona County High School in Casper.

Sheridan Troopers Legion Baseball: The Sheridan Troopers rose up to the challenge at home earlier this week and took down 4-time defending state champ Cheyenne Post 6, and it was no walk in the park.

The opposition did not go away, especially at the end of the first game when the bases were loaded and it was only a 2-run game.

Troopers Head Coach Austin Cowen praised his team for keeping things together.

Sheridan next plays next week Tuesday at home in a double-header vs. Miles City, Montana.

Colorado Rockies Baseball: The Colorado Rockies were swept in a 3-game series at home by Cincinnati, losing yesterday afternoon 12-7.

Elias Diaz hit a solo home run, and the Rocks were up 7-4, before the bullpen gave up 2 runs in the 8th and 6 in the 9th.

Colorado starts a 7-game road trip today with a 4-game series at St. Louis, to be followed by a 3-game series at Minnesota.

First pitch today is scheduled for 5:45pm.
