George Burget

George Erwin Burget, 68, of Sheridan passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Sheridan Veterans Hospital after a long fight with cancer.  He was born April 4, 1955, in Kalispell, Montana to Parlin and Helen (Holder) Burget.  He attended Somers Elementary in Somers, Montana, and Scobey High in Scobey, Montana.  He obtained an Associate’s Degree in Human Services from Flathead Valley Community College in Kalispell, Montana.

George enjoyed his time in the Military stationed in Fort Ord post in Monterey Bay, California, and in Germany where he specialized in Clerical and Personnel.  He also spent time as a Certified Food Inspector.  In the Summers of 2002, 2003, and 2004 he worked for Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds first as a Campground Host and then became the Northern Big Horn Mountain Manager for Gallatin; overseeing 17 campgrounds and 8 to 10 Hosts / Host Couples.

During the colder period of 2003 – 2004, his time was spent working for the BLM in Quartzsite Arizona.  However, in the fall of 2004, he decided to stay in the Bighorn Mountains which he had come to love, and went to work at Bear Lodge.  In 2010 he was promoted to Bar Manager for Elk View Inn and in February of 2015 he became the Acting General Manager for Elk View Inn. During his time on the mountain, he willingly accepted responsibility in several areas of the lodge; Bar, Gift Shop, Dining Room, and even Snowmobile Tail Gunner.  He took the initiative to become First Aid and CPR certified. His dedication and loyalty to Bear Lodge & Elk View Inn Customers, Management, and fellow staff were commendable. Lifetime friendships were made.  He enjoyed not only working but snowmobiling, spending time on his ATV, and camping.  He was known to many as “LOP” Leader of the Pack.   He retired from the Lodges in October 2017.  After his retirement from the lodges, he returned to Quartzsite, Arizona for a period before returning to Wyoming where he became a counselor for Veterans in the Sheridan area and made himself available 24:7 for those in need of a phone call and a friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his children;  James, Cathy, and Marcus. Three grandsons, and Brothers; Marcus, Tom, and sister Paulette.
