Back in 2017, Sheridan Media founder and art lover Kim Love resurrected Celebrate the Arts as a one-day event to commemorate the opening of SAGE Community Arts new space in the Montgomery building downtown and the unveiling of Allan Houser’s downtown sculpture, Interconnection.
Now, Celebrate the Arts lasts for four days bringing the art community of the Sheridan region together to showcase their talents and highlight gifted artists in various mediums and performances. Executive Director of SAGE Community Arts and chair of Celebrate the Arts Jill Benson spoke on the evolution of the celebration while appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse.
Art is not only culturally significant, the art economy helps Sheridan monetarily as well. According to Sheridan Travel & Tourism, the arts economy generates as much as $20 million in local economic impact each year. Sheridan Travel and Tourism also states that artists and art exports serve as tremendous ambassadors and advertisements, respectively, for the entire community.
This year, Celebrate the Arts will run from Thursday, Aug. 19, to Aug. 23, with the celebration kicking off in Art Alley at 5 p.m.
