The Powwow that typically takes place at the Historic Sheridan Inn shortly after the parade concludes on Rodeo Friday will not be happening this year. City of Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger made the announcement during the council comments section at Tuesday night’s Sheridan City Council meeting.

The Council, at a recent study session, discussed a funding request in the amount of $10,000 from the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Board for the Powwow, but the decision by the Crow Tribe to not take part in the Powwow led to the item not making it onto the agenda for consideration at Council’s business meeting Tuesday night.

Thank goodness! Now that we know what it costs, I’m sure a lot of the taxpayers are happy with this.

Not this one. It was great to see and experience their traditions and witness the heritage. They are proud of who they are and all they have endured, they should be celebrated.

No, it’s all about the money. And $40k is ridiculous. Ask them to do it for less, and the answer will be anything but “proud”.

The request for funds was $10,000, not $40,000. Your exaggeration only hinders intelligent problem solving’

Travel and tourism-$20,000. County-$10,000. City of Sheridan-$10,000. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the sum of these numbers is $40,000. Where do you think this money comes from? Falling off trees?

If that is true, I stand corrected… None of the other requests were mentioned in the article.. Only the City.

Wondering here why Covid is blamed for the Crow decision. Didn’t the Crow participate in the Tongue River powwow in May?

VERY SAD!!!! Like the relay races for the rodeo ,this event is a BIG part of parade day. First People Nations have become a Huge part of Rodeo Week. They will be missed….

The Crow are simply holding out for money, and i can’t blame them. They want our tax payer money. It is a money grab, if you want them here, SHOW THEM THE MONEY!

I think saying no shows they DO have pride. They know their worth, and stuck to their guns. Good for them! Any business business professional today would turn down an offer of only 1/4th the asking price.
