Congresswoman Cheney: ‘The GOP is at a Turning Point’

U.S. Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, in an op-ed published Wednesday in the Washington Post, said the Republican Party is at a turning point and Republicans must decide whether we are going to choose truth and fidelity to the Constitution. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Cheney Op-ed

Congresswoman Cheney, in the op-ed, said that former president Donald Trump, in public statements this week, repeated his claims that the 2020 election was fraudulent and was stolen. Cheney said Trump repeats these words now with full knowledge that exactly this type of language provoked violence on January 6, and, as the Justice Department and multiple federal judges have suggested, there is good reason to believe that Trump’s language can provoke violence again. Trump is seeking to unravel critical elements of our constitutional structure that make democracy work — confidence in the result of elections and the rule of law. No other American president has ever done this.

Cheney, in the op-ed, also called for Republicans to support the Justice Department’s investigations into the January 6 attack on the Capitol, saying the investigations must be comprehensive and objective; neither the White House nor any member of Congress should interfere. Cheney also called on the GOP to stand for genuinely conservative principles, and steer away from the dangerous and anti-democratic Trump cult of personality.

Representative Cheney closed the op-ed by saying history is watching, our children are watching. We must be brave enough to defend the basic principles that underpin and protect our freedom and our democratic process, adding that she is committed to doing that, no matter what the short-term political consequences might be.

The Election was stolen Ms. Cheney! Remember 2000? the hanging chad? We fixed that issue and we will fix the mail in, drop box, no ID, midnite ballots that caused this election to be taken from the people. I also think you are at a point of lost self direction, you have forgotten what state you represent, the will of the people from Wyoming, and it might be time to go back to Virginia and regroup? That Virginia senate seat might suit you better……….. Toast anyone?

I’m in awe of how the Repubs in general, and WY Repubs in particular, have such a problem with honesty. Used to be high on the scale of human character. Lots of allegations regarding the election, but to date, no proof of fraud. Please show me the proof and I could change my view. Poor simple minded repubs believe the stories of a New York property developer who lies all the time, wouldn’t pay his subcontractors, walked away from bankruptcies, and hides his tax returns. Ok, most repubs might not be clowns, perhaps – just simple minded, voicing beliefs (anyone can make up anything)) but not facts (where’s the proof of “stolen election”?). Maybe most repubs believe without evidence but some, like Barrasso and Lummis, are actually dishonest.

Many hours of state legislative hearings on youtube from MI, GA, AZ, PA, etc, with hundreds of whistleblowers for you to watch and listen to. Just because CNN didnt air them, doesnt mean they did happen. Dont take my word for it, just make up your own mind.

Remember, Trump was impeached the first time based on one whistleblowers 2nd hand testimony. A whistleblower, to this very day, who has never been identified.

So I don’t know how to edit, but I would like to modify last post. I realize “simple minded” could be taken as an insult, though for me it is often a good quality. Let me change “simple minded” to gullible, meaning easily persuaded to believe something. Looks like most repubs are easily persuaded to believe the election was stolen, even though there is no real evidence.

Your first analogy is spot on…no need to change anything as I am sure the clowns get the idea.

Liz Cheney is at a turning point! She needs to decide whether she should try to keep pretending she’s a Republican or show her true colors as just another lying Democrat!

I can’t wait to vote against Chicago Liz. I am tired of RINOs who work for the Democrat Party. We need REAL Republicans in the Republican Party, patriotic Constitutionalists who stand up against Democratic Socialism.

Bill – storming the US capitol to overturn a national election certified by all the states is patriotic constitutionalism how? I’m really interested in how you are going to say that is how the founding principals designed the US democracy to work. Then of course the spectacle of repubs voting to disenfranchise voters only from the states that the former president lost – yep, real constiutionalists.

As I recall your messiah has done plenty of it himself,,,as well as a lot of other RINO’s. This is not the place for a turf war as warmongers like, rather it is a place where the insane need to become sane.

Not really necessary to point out the irony of this comment, is it?
I mean, given the example set by your exalted leader who boasted “I’m pretty good at giving people names.” C’mon Mark, you can do better than just leftist, can’t you? Review Little Marco, Lyin’Ted, Pocahontas, Sleepy Joe, Sleepy Ben Carson, Warmonger Liz, Low Energy Jeb, Mitch’s Boy (Thune), Mr MaGoo, Mike Pounce for some more exciting discussion comebacks, eh?

Sadder than this turn coat RINO is that the rest of the country thinks she represents the people of the state of Wyoming.
Time for her to head back to the east coast and represent them and the by the way take the 1% ers that live in Jackson Hole with you!

What happened to the GOP I have been a voter and member of for 60 years. The party of Reagan, Lincoln, Bush: – to a party that censures a House Member for telling the truth about the Big Lair. A party that now embraces, ripping kids from their parents, open paid for marital infidelity, 3rd grade level name calling, constant lying by it’s leader, a leader who incites terrorists to invade our Capitol building, a leader who condones white supremacy, a leader that a MAJORITY of Americans voted against, who now spreads the “Big Lie” that he really didn’t lose the election. A BIG LIE that there is absolutely NO real facts to support, except his Big mouth fed by his Gigantic Ego… I have yet to see a shred of factual evidence to prove the election was stolen. What happened to the GOP?? It began to ROT with Trump, But the real culprits are the folks, who against all logic and fact believe him. Sad, how many good people, good Republicans have been fooled by this charlatan.

Liz was wrong to vote to impeach. Trump has a right to express himself and state his opinions. If we criminalize speech we will turn into an authoritarian state. I will be looking for a better option than Cheney in the primary.
