Wyoming Highway Patrol Lieutenant Erk Jorgensen spoke on driving safety during the Spring season while appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse.

According to Jorgensen, during the Spring season many morotorist begin increasing speeds on the Interstates and highways of Wyoming, believing the dangers of winter driving to be behind them.

On March 1, 2020 two pile-up crashes involving approximately 100 vehicles resulted in thirty people being taken to the hospital, killed three people and shut down Interstate 80 for about a day and a half.

Often Spring snow storms will bring freezing rain and blowing snow with little warning here in Wyoming. The conditions can leave roads slick and often catch motorists off guard, who may not realize that the speed they are traveling is too fast for the situation, Jorgensen said.

The WHP Lieutenant recommends that motorists take Spring storms and warnings seriously and remember that just because the weather may be nice, it’s no excuse to exceed speed limits.
