The Johnson County COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center (EOC) held their weekly briefing Tuesday, and gave the latest information on vaccines, infections, and vaccinations moving forward.

County Public Health Nursing Manager Trisha Thompson said there have been concerns that the vaccine was giving people the COVID-19 virus, and she addressed that issue.

Thompson said “I’m beyond excited to be giving COVID vaccines. It is definitely a sign of hope for a lot of people and its definitely a light at the end of the tunnel for me at public health as well.”

Public Health is currently waiting on their shipments of the vaccine for February, to see what the allotment will be moving forward, according to Thompson, and she said rapid changes are happening, and will continue with the new administration coming in this week.

She said that as of Tuesday, public health has given 242 COVID vaccinations which include priority 1a health care providers, long-term care and veterans home residents and workers, and those 70-plus in the 1b priority category.

She said they will continue to focus on the 70-plus for vaccinations for the foreseeable future.
