Commission Approves Natural Resource Management Plan

Members of the steering committee tasked with compiling the county’s Natural Resource Management Plan presented the final draft to the county commission at their recent meeting for review and possible adoption.

The steering committee, along with Y2 Consultants LLC of Jackson, developed the county’s Natural Resource Plan, and the commissioners thanked them for the accomplishment.

The Wyoming State Legislature provided $50,000 each in funding for counties to develop and revise their natural resource management plans, which serve as a basis for communicating and coordinating with the federal government and its agencies on land and natural resource management issues.

County natural resource plans will identify objectives and priorities for the use, development, and protection of natural resources and land in the state.

Federal agencies consideration of a local natural resource management plan can play a key role in the success of a local government engaging as a cooperative agency or with consistency review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), coordination under the Federal Lands Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), or National Forest Management Act (NFMA) as well as assisting in the Governor’s consistency review.
