A group of organizers are planning for skijoring events in Buffalo, and have approached the city council for approval of street closures and open container requests.

According to discussions at the latest city council meeting, organizers are expecting roughly 150 teams to sign up and compete in the event, which is being planned for February near Prosinski Park.

Anke Kottmann and Claudia Todd explained their need for road closures for the event.

According to Wikipedia, skijoring is a winter sport in which a person on skis is pulled by a horse, a dog or a motor vehicle. Although skijoring is said to have originated as a mode of winter travel, it is currently primarily a competitive sport.

The city council approved the street closures, noise variance, and open container requests, contingent upon the organizers securing liability insurance to cover the event.
