Sheridan Veterans of Forgien Wars Post 1560 will hold a Veteran’s Day celebration starting at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the VFW Post 1560 located at 785 Broadway St.
Music will be provided by local band One Shot and will begin at 3 p.m. to continue until 5 p.m. Post 1560 will be selling burgers, beans, chips and a drink for $7.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, VFW Post Commander Scott Height told listeners the event is being held to bring together and honor veterans during Veteran’s Day.
Post 1560 will observe COVID-19 guidelines keeping veterans and their families safe during the celebration, Height said.
The Veterans of Forgien Wars first began to take shape in 1899, when veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection formed local organizations to assist them in securing medical care and other benefits from the U.S. Government.
Some of the groups banded together and in 1914, formed the VFW, which received it’s congressional charter in 1936.
Having undergone changes in the last decade, the VFW has become more family friendly while “bridging the gap” between veterans of past wars into one organization dedicated to each other, Height said.
