Voters in Johnson County will go to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes for President of the United States, US Senator and US Representative, and for state races for the senate and house of representatives.

But also important are the numerous local races that will more directly affect their community.

In the City of Buffalo, John Camino, David Iverson, and Scott Madsen are running for two seats on the city council.

Incumbent Bob Perry is running unopposed for the county commission.

There are five positions open on the Johnson County School Board, and six running to fill the seats.

Voters must decide between Jan Johnson, Kristen LeDoux, Jodi Verplanke, Randy Brown, Lynette Fox, and Shanell Hatch.

For the Hospital Board of Trustees, incumbents Mark Schueler and Christy Kinghorn as well as Robert Hancock and Tom Maertens are running for two open seats.

Rural Health Care District Trustees have two seats open that have incumbents Marilyn Connolly and Robert McBride as well as Marie Miller and Jeffrey Cope running to fill.

There are two propositions on Johnson County’s ballot, including the Constitutional amendment to remove the limit on the amount of debt a municipality can create for sewer projects.

Locally, a proposition to renew the county’s Solid Waste District mill levy for operations at the county landfills is also before the voters.

In what very well may be the most contentious issue on Johnson County’s ballot, along with Sheridan County’s ballot, is a grassroots effort from a Political Action Committee to not retain Judge William J. Edelman for another 6-year term.

Voters can cast their votes Tuesday from 7am to 7pm at the county’s polling places, which are the Bomber Mountain Civic Center and Catholic Rec Hall in Buffalo and at the Harold Jarrard Park in Kaycee.
